Pinelands Nursery and Supply Sustainability Speaker Series

Pinelands Nursery and Supply is hosting a NJDEP Sustainability Speaker Series meeting. At the meeting, their production analyst, Tom Knezick, will be discussing Pinelands Nursery and Supply’s sustainable initiatives which include water conservation, renewable energy, emergency preparedness and community engagement. We will also learn how to create pollinator habitats from Kelly Gill who is both the Senior Pollinator Conservation Specialist at The Xerces Society and Partner Biologist at USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. Following the presentations there will be a tour of Pinelands Nursery and Supply’s Wildflower Farm. Please register here.

Sustainable South Jersey Earth Festival

The Sustainable South Jersey annual Earth Festival is the largest eco-event in South Jersey and draws 5000 visitors. This year’s theme is: Reduce Plastic – Fantastic! This family-friendly event features: bike ride (8:30am), bike valet parking, entertainment, healthy food for purchase (vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, too), outdoor arts & crafts, earth-friendly vendors and organizations, perennial plant swap, free tree seedlings (while supply lasts), recycle-upcycle depot drop-off, plastic-cap kids-craft, reusable water bottle refills, and Flying Fish Sustainable Sips (aged 21+) and more. This is an all-weather FREE event.

Plant Swap!

Sunday, May 5th from  1-2:30pm

Collingswood Library, 771 Haddon Ave, Collingswood, NJ

Calling all plant lovers! Bring your extra veggie/flower seedlings, perennial divisions, bulbs, shrubs, healthy house plants, or just come empty handed, and leave with new (to you) plant varieties. Please place your plants in containers, label them as well as possible and make sure they are non-invasive, as well as pest & disease-free. The SJ Seed Circle Library will be on hand with seeds that you can plant now.

Come join us on this free & family friendly event! We’ll begin the day at our Williamstown Organic Community Garden, head to the Gloucester Township Community Garden at the Gabreil Daveis Tavern, then to the Community Garden at Crows Woods, Haddonfield, and end our day at the amazing Plant-A-Patch Community Garden at the Barclay Farmstead, in Cherry Hill, NJ!

Sustainable Cherry Hill Earth Festival

Celebrate, Learn, and Grow to mark this year’s Earth Festival theme: Reduce Plastic – Fantastic! Our rain-or-shine event at historic Croft Farm, starts with the 8 a.m. Family Fun Bike Ride (register now); then the festival across three acres of farmstead at 10 a.m. We’ll have free entertainment; healthy food choices for purchase, sustainable tips, crafts, products, services and more. School groups will display our Earth Festival theme and more focusing on a sustainable world.

Bring your family, friends and neighbors to this free, annual event. While parking is available in this park setting, we strongly encourage you to consider biking to our Earth Festival – save money, the planet and get exercise! We’ll have free, secure bike valet parking supported by the Courier Post.

GREEN SPACE AND MENTAL HEALTH! Rachel McCormick is a pediatric nurse practitioner with an interest in how the environment and neighborhoods impact the health of children. She will be speaking about what we can learn from current research on access to green space and the mental well being of children.

THE HABITAT FOR HUMANITY RESTORE!: Hear how you can help reduce waste in landfills by donating your unwanted household items and furniture to your local ReStore from Tristan Keyster, ReStore Director in Maple Shade.

ZERO WASTE AND LITTER PROGRAMS FOR THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA!: Nic Esposito served as a PowerCorpsPHL project manager and later Sustainability Manager for Philadelphia Parks and Recreation and was then selected by the Managing Director’s Office to create a coordinated public / private sector plan to address Philadelphia’s litter problem, part of an effort to set Philadelphia on a path to Zero Waste by 2035.
