Earth Day: 50th Anniversary Party!

Kinkora Road Clean Up

Come join the AmeriCorps NJ Watershed Ambassadorsand the Crafts Creek Spring Hill Brook Watershed Association as we try to clean up New Jersey!  This is a fun event for all ages! We will be cleaning up along Kinkora Road which will help prevent trash from entering the Delaware River. Help us as we try to make our parks, our water and our communities cleaner and healthier!

 

When and where? 

We will be meeting at the end of Kinkora Road.  Parking can be found at either the Hedding United Methodist Church (2289 Old York Rd, Bordentown, NJ 08505) or in the grassy area across from the Church in front of the Three Tuns Sign.  The event is at 1 PM but please arrive about 10-15 minutes early to sign in and collect supplies.  

 

What to bring?

Please bring your own water bottle and wear layers, closed-toed shoes (they might get wet – we recommend rain boots or waterproof hiking boots), and long pants.  All supplies will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own work gloves, neon safety vest, or trash grabbers if you have them. 

 

Who?

You!  Everyone is welcome to help out!  If you would like to register a group you may do so on the registration page or you can email the event coordinators.  Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

Petty’s Island Community Clean Up Day

Here’s your chance to be part of the restoration of Petty’s Island. Join our team of enthusiastic volunteers to help clean up and restore the shoreline of this majestic island as part of the larger restoration project taking place. This cleanup is great for scout, religious groups, after school project and other civic groups looking for a local volunteer project. Children MUST be 12 years and older to participate. Registration is REQUIRED for this event; space is limited. Directions and other details are given upon registration.

It’s on Saturday, October 5th from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm at Petty’s Island, 36th Street and Harrison Avenue, Pennsauken Township, NJ

Cleanup of Wharton State Forest

The Green Acres program has acquired 650 new acres of Pinelands in Burlington County which will be added to Wharton State Forest. The first step to getting the land ready for the public is to remove the illegal dumping on the property. We will go in and clean-up the site and then take an optional short hike through the area.

This meetup is located at the intersection of Patty Boker Road and Chatsworth Road in Tabernacle, NJ.
Future work may include posting signage and preventing ORV damage to the wetlands on the property.

Tall Pines Winter Botany Walk and Invasive Species Removal 

Tall Pines Winter Botany Walk and Invasive Species Removal 

Saturday, February 9th, 10:00 am – 12 pm

Take a winter walk with us through Tall Pines and learn how to identify plants in the winter! Without their greenery, many plants can be difficult to name, but in this walk we’ll learn help you identify trees and shrubs even without their leaves. We’ll also learn how to identify invasives and work to remove them from the property so native species can grow! So grab your coat and gloves, and wander through the winter woodland with us!

Please bring your own loppers or pruners if you have them.

Petty’s Island Annual Spring Shoreline Cleanup 
Saturday, April 13th
8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. 

Petty’s Island is privately-owned and is making an amazing transformation from an active marine terminal and oil storage facility into a State Park. Access to the island is limited, so don’t miss this opportunity to see the island and help in its transformation. We will be doing a cleanup of the shoreline where marine debris threatens the health of wildlife and humans. Children MUST be 12 and older to participate. Join us for a Community Cleanup of Kirkwood Lake. We will meet at the end of Pinelawn Avenue and clean the trails that run through the park. After the cleanup, we will take a nature walk on the trail system.

Directions: Take Rt.30 east, make left onto White Horse Road, right onto Berlin Road, left onto Pinelawn Ave. We will meet at the end of the street. Bags, gloves, and grabbers will be supplied.

Join South Jersey Land and Water Trust for a Community Cleanup of Kirkwood Lake on Saturday, November 3rd, from 10:00am-1:00pm We will meet at the end of Pinelawn Avenue and clean the trails that run through the park. After the cleanup we will take a nature walk on the trail system.

Camden Waterfront Cleanup

Help us keep New Jersey clean, green, and pristine! Join us for a cleanup of the Camden Waterfront. We will meet on Pearl St. next to Campbell Field and start from there. We’ll pick up trash around the area and learn about the natural history of the waterfront. Tools, grabbers, and gloves will be provided.

Camden Greenway Cleanup

Join us for a Community Cleanup of the Camden Greenway Trail along Cooper River. We will clean up the roadsides along Baird Blvd. and the area trails. After the cleanup Michael Hogan will lead a history and native/non native plant walk. We will meet along Baird Blvd. across from the old Camden High School site.
